This is a simple moisture detection tool. It is stuck through the carpet and into padding. If moisture content in the carpet or pad is greater than eighteen percent, it emits a beep and a red light blinks on the unit.

Moisture levels are usually recorded in percent by mass, shortened to simply percent. In most materials, a reading of more than fifteen is above normal.
